White Kitchen Cabinets – The Perfect Backdrop For A Chic Decor

It’s the simplest and most versatile color and yet we’re often intimidated by it and afraid to enjoy its advantages. On one hand this achromatic color is very appreciated for the fact that it makes spaces look open and bright, creating the impression of a larger room but on the other hand this is also a color that’s very susceptible to stains which brings us to our main question: are white kitchen cabinets a good idea or not? A lot of designers say yes and we’re tempted to agree with them.

Interior designer Remy Meijers chose a combination of white and gray for the kitchen in this 1950’s bungalow in Baambrugge, the Netherlands. The neutral palette suits the kitchen well, allowing it to blend in and to maintain an open and spacious feel throughout the house.

By opting for white kitchen cabinets, LSA Architects managed to let the furniture disappear into the walls of the room and this way to create a very breezy ambiance which doesn’t let the large island at the center overwhelm the floor plan.

The shiny white kitchen cabinets cover up the entire wall here, making the most of a compact space and offering lots of storage, all concealed in a minimalist unit. The kitchen’s white and clean look also establishes a nice continuity with the outdoor poolside area. Despite the neutral color palette, the space doesn’t lack color thanks to the full-height windows that let the outdoors in.

Even though white is the perfect color when you want to create the impression of more space and to maintain a bright and open ambiance, it’s often best to also have a secondary color or some elements that can break the monotony of the decor. In the case of this home designed by Carola Vannini Architecture in Rome, the large exposed beams on the ceiling, the textured backsplash and the golden mirror frame ensure a well-balanced space.

There are numerous design strategies which can be used when trying to make a small kitchen look large. White cabinets can definitely send the right message. Large windows, glass doors and abundant lighting can also help. The kitchen of this coastal home designed by Susanna Cots can be a good source of inspiration.

This charming maisonette in Gothenburg, Sweden has a U-shaped kitchen which, despite being small, fells pretty spacious. It’s all thanks to the white cabinets. But that’s not the only beautiful thing about the design. We’re enchanted by how nicely the white walls, floor and cabinetry are complemented by the wooden countertop and all the other touches of color.

We’re big fans of the contrast between white and wood, especially when it’s such a warm and pleasant tone. This is the open kitchen that Cambuild created for a private residence in Perth, Australia. What we love most about it is the fact that the colors come in big blocks. There’s the large white island and the matching cabinetry that look incredibly clean and pure in combination with the large wooden module that incorporates the fridge but also the wooden floor.

The sculptural white staircase sets the tone here for a decor that has a futuristic vibe. This kitchen designed by J. Mayer H. Architects is defined by polished concrete flooring, white cabinetry and very subtle hints of warm brown and light wood. It’s simple and mostly monochromatic but somehow it doesn’t look boring.

One of the easiest and most efficient ways to open up a space is by using white as a main color. You can see that here. Interior designer Susanna Cots chose white kitchen cabinets on white walls to make the space look less tight and cluttered and gave it wooden flooring for a touch of warmth and comfort.

When they designed the Mop House in Kuwait, AGI Architects made sure to keep things simple and well-balanced so white became the primary color, often combined with wood and warm, earthy colors as well as dark accents and clean and crisp contrasts.

White kitchen cabinets don’t look as simple and bland when they’re framed by walls in a different color. In this apartment in Manhattan, for instance, white is reserved for the furniture and the ceilings while the walls and floors are a source of contrast. In the kitchen the floor is covered in wood with a light tint and the walls are painted in a warm tone of grayish brown.

The main goal of the Monovolume Architecture + Design team was to establish a seamless transition between the interior and the exterior spaces so they designed House M with  stone-like floor tiles and white kitchen cabinets that coordinate with the overall fresh and breezy ambiance and the adjacent terrace.

In addition to giving this kitchen a white island and matching cabinetry, Studio Pha also used another clever strategy to make the space seem large and open. Notice that the island is supported by a base slightly narrower than the body and this creates the impression of a floating unit.

The design strategy adopted by Resolution: 4 Architecture when creating the Wadia Residence in New York was simple: use bright and neutral colors to create a fresh and versatile background and fun and vibrant colors for the accent pieces.

The LM Guest House was completed in 2012 by Desai Chia Architecture. It’s located in New York and its interior design is minimalist with a focus on the views. The kitchen is a representative space in that sense. It has white walls and crisp white furniture complemented by a gray floor, a wooden ceiling and full-height windows that reveal views of the greenery.

White kitchen cabinets can be strategically used to maximize the impact of the natural light coming through a window that isn’t particularly large. This apartment in Gothenburg is a good example. It has a very charming kitchen defined by a mixture of modern and Nordic elements.

White cabinetry can definitely help make a small kitchen seem larger or at least more open and if you want to improve on that you can also use other design strategies. For instance, the kitchen in this Copenhagen penthouse designed by Norm Architects features open wall shelves.

The timeless black and white combo is showcased here in a modern setting. The kitchen is almost square-shaped and this offers a comfortable space to move around in. All the cabinets are white, including the island and the backsplash wall is black, matching the bar stools and the sink.

White is not a forgiving color. It shows every little stain and it doesn’t hide scratches well either. Still, it’s work sacrificing some things to gain others. This kitchen was designed by Office of Architecture and its white cabinets go all the way up to the ceiling and yet don’t overwhelm the room with their proportions.

As great as white may be at making spaces feel large and open, it can be a cool and austere color that doesn’t make decors feel warm and welcoming. Studio Jam Architecture had a great solution for that problem. Their strategy was to use lots of wood to balance out all the white used in this kitchen.

The black and white combination is timeless for a reason: it’s incredibly versatile as well as trend-less. Interior designer Boris Uborevich-Borovsky took advantage of that and managed to make this apartment in Moscow look extraordinary without allowing it to be too simple or too opulent.

White is the perfect color for this kitchen for several reasons, one of them being the central placement of the space. The white island opens up the floor plan and establishes a very fresh and airy ambiance as well as a connection with the rest of the spaces. This is a design by De Brouwer Binnenwerk.

Using any other color in this kitchen would have made the already small space seem even tinier. The white, however, opens up the room and makes the kitchen look very clean and fresh. This is a space designed by Marta Badiola for herself.

Too much color can ruin a decor so instead of infusing this kitchen with lots of different hues, omb kept it as simple and as white as possible. The color comes from outside. The kitchen’s connection with the outdoors is a very important characteristic of its design.

This open plan kitchen designed by architect David Watson and AGUSHI Builders for a residence in Australia also has a strong relationship with the outdoors. Located in Melbourne, Australia, this residence was designed by LSA Architects. It’s kitchen is not particularly large and doesn’t have a direct connection to the yard. However, it does have a long window instead of a backsplash and that’s a source of color for the room. The white kitchen cabinets and island don’t lack character either, being complemented by accent tones in various forms.

Making a kitchen look bright and open is easier when there’s a large window or, even better a glass wall. When the kitchen is placed at the end of a room, with no windows anywhere near, designers have to be creative if they want to obtain a similar look. NYC Interior Design gave this duplex in New York a kitchen with all-white cabinets and clear pendant lamps.

The lack of natural light in this London home became an opportunity for FORM Design Architecture to make the space feel very cozy and comfortable. They didn’t want it to look small and gloomy so they chose white as the primary color for the furniture, walls and ceiling.

Despite being so large, the kitchen doesn’t look  very imposing thanks to the simple palette of colors and materials.

It’s important to take advantage of the layout and the views of a space. This kitchen overlooks a beautiful forest and Foraster Architects made sure to emphasize that. It also has a wall completely covered in cabinetry in addition to an island/ bar and to avoid letting the furniture interfere with the view, the designers chose white as the primary color.
