However, they have the lowest owner happiness, people often complaining about longevity and comfort issues.

The mattresses we se today are made of layers of different densities of foam that respond to weight and temperature and which contour to the shape of the user’s body. This way it reduces pressure points, relieves pain and absorbs movement. Memory foam mattresses are the highest rated in terms of owner happiness. But there are also a few cons such as the fact that they make you feel really hot during the night and they can sometimes give off strong odors.

Latex mattresses have been around since the early 1900’s although back then they used to be very expensive. Modern manufacturing has lowered the price considerably, making latex mattresses an affordable option. They feature one of the simplest constructions and some actually contain only latex. They can feature latex foam as the support system, in the upholstery layers or both. They are highly durable, lasting for 15 or more years but few brands carry them so they’re difficult to buy.

There are several different types of waterbeds. For example, they can be either hard-sided or soft-sided. Hard-sided waterbeds have a water chamber inside a rectangular wood frame while the soft-sided ones feature a rigid foam frame zippered inside a fabric casing. The water chamber can be free flow or waveless. Both types usually rest on a platform. They require special maintenance, they can potentially cause a mess in your home and they’re difficult to find in stores.

Air beds

They look like standard mattresses and use air-filled chambers as a support system. They’re covered by padding or upholstery materials and they allow the user to adjust the firmness. Usually, each side of the bed can be controlled separately. They have been long used for patients with spinal cord injuries or those forced to lie in bed for long periods of time. The less sophisticated types, however, offer poor quality and they’re often known to pop.
