Unique Seashell House

A house shapes like a seashell might seem like a very bizarre idea for most of us but for the owner of this property it was a dream come true. The house is located in the Tavatuy community, in Russia. It’s a 228 square meter home and it look like a giant seashell.Given the shape of the house, there were some restrictions. For example, it couldn’t have the type of windows that regular homes have and the rooms featured irregular shapes.

However, nothing stopped the client from making his vision come true. The architects had to carefully design the house and to pay attention not only to its functionality but also to the exterior shape. The interior of the house was designed to be reminiscent of the ocean and the sea as well. The top level of the building is a symbol of the air above the sea. It features a large stained glass window with panoramic views of the nearby lake. There are also strategically-placed skylights that let in natural light.

The second floor of the house mimics the surface of the sea. It includes a curvilinear staircase and it’s been decorated with glass tile trimmings and furnishings that were made by hand, due to the uniqueness of the interior spaces and the design. The basement level symbolizes the sea floor. It has sofas shaped like corals and anemones and a small office resembling a grotto. The bed has a water mattress and most of the furniture was made by hand.{found on Architecture Lab}.
