Unique Remodel of a Railway Cottage

Located in Santpoort-Noord, The Netherlands, this amazing residence has been remodeled and expanded by Zecc Architects. This historic railway cottage is now a place where you can feel close to nature while enjoying a comfortable living.

The architects wanted to accentuate the contrast between the straight metal rails and the softness of the dunes. TThe hardness os steel, glass and concrete against waving grass, wood and shells. Also, they created an extension on two sides, which focuses on the surrounding greenary. Furthermore the old railway cottage is on the inside almost unchanged. The old part provides security and connects all open spaces of the house.

A volume was added on the east side and its basement houses a sleeping area with bathroom. What’s more, the architects made reversals between the inside and outside. The outside of the railway house is the interior for the dining room and the patio looks as an interior space.

The Santpoort Rail House is a stunning place where elemens are combined in order to create an eclectic decor. Design classics combined with found objects, a persian carpet on the hard concrete and a surfboard next to the dining table are just a few examples. It is an unique home that provides an interesting lifestyle.
