Traditional Living Room Decorating Ideas

Even if we are in century of speed and modernism, when it comes to our houses, some people prefer to go back in the days and decorate their houses in a traditional style, style that is pretty much the same as the retro style from ’80-’90.

Let’s take, for example a classic living room. How to decorate it, in order to obtain a traditional ambiance in the room?

First of all, every traditional living room should have large curtains, curtains that should be a little bit larger than the windows, and if possible, should respect the main area from the room. A bold color wouldn’t fit a traditional decorated living room, and neither a color that wouldn’t be in the same pattern of colors as the rest of the room.

As concerning the furniture, as a dominant piece, people have 2 options: either they decorate the living room with a big leather couch, surrounded by armchairs and a big tv in front of them, either they decorate it with a big wooden table, table that should be sculpted in a classic model. Of course, the wooden table should be big enough to allow 6-12 people at the table.

Now, the problem that appears in the case of such a table is whether the owner should also place a TV or not in the living room. And, in order to give an advice, people should think very well how often will they be using that table, and what will be the purpose of the meetings. If it’s about business, than a TV shouldn’t be placed, but if the meetings would have a familial character, then a TV is recommended.

As concerning other parts of the furniture, a nice traditional living room should have at least a wooden closet, sculpted in a traditional way, or even a library. Though, in this case, the main color of the room should be a shade of brown or light black as they are the only ones that suit a traditional style.

As for the carpets, the Victorians ones are the best. Choosing a carpet with powerful colors – without being too bold or to light – and placing it on the floor, right under the wooden table would be perfect for obtaining a traditional living room.

And that’s pretty much it. Even if there might be other accessories that would fit a traditional living rooms, the above items are the most representative items for a traditional room.
