Tips For A Tropically Inspired Bedroom

The warmth of the tropical sun can make you feel relaxed and at ease, so using some design cues that have the same effect in your bedroom is a great idea. Decorating your bedroom in a style that evokes something of the tropics will help you sleep and the look is great, too. Update your bedroom to look like it would be at home in a hot climate. Use designs that reflect the Caribbean, Southeast Asia or Africa to create a warm and inviting tropical bedroom.

Go Green.

Nothing says tropical in quite the same way as an expanse of verdant coloring. Add some tropical plants to your bedroom, such as aloe vera or a banana plant. Paint two or more walls in a deep green hue, but not a shade that is too dark. Set this off against pure white on the ceiling or an opposing wall. Browns will work well in the color palette mix but use them sparingly. Use floral leaf prints on your bedding and cushions to complete the tropical look.

Make The Best of The View.

Tropical hotels and villas always make the best use they can of the view. Okay, so your home may not look out over a white sandy beach and palm trees, but you can still make the room look like it might be in the tropics by making sure there is plenty of light. Folding doors that open up more than one wall are ideal for a tropically inspired room. If you cannot install these, make sure the bedroom has more than one aspect that you can view through its windows. If possible, look out over some planting that will give you more green to match your internal color choices.

Cool Floors.

Wooden floors work well in tropically inspired rooms. However, all over the region closest to the equator porcelain tiling or marble is used to help keep interiors cool. Go for a floor tile that has a little warmth to its color. Plain white is not quite right but off whites, grays and pale terra cotta will work perfectly. You can warm up the look a little with a rug, if you need to. Tropically inspired tiled floors, like this, are not only cool, but easy to clean and maintain.

Bamboo Bedrooms.

Use bamboo in your bedroom to bring out some more tropical flavour. Bamboo looks great if it is used as a building material that covers a surface. Bamboo reed that sits in between beams over a ceiling is a great look that is found all over Southeast Asia. Little bamboo mats make great additions to your bedroom’s bedside cabinets. And furniture that is made from bamboo will also look great. Bamboo weave is quite commonly found in furniture such as closets and even chairs. There are a number of specialist bamboo furniture makers that you can discover in order to find the right product for your room.

Tropical Netting.

By hanging some netting around your bed you can evoke a balmy tropical night. Of course, you may not want to hand the netting all over the bed, as you would in the tropics to avoid mosquitoes. However some netting arranged around bed posts can look great. Use plain, white netting with a fine gauze for the best results.

Fans.

Even if you don’t turn them on, install a couple of fans in your bedroom to give it a tropical effect. The best ones to use are ceiling mounted, and they can be incorporated with your bedroom’s lighting. However, a simple desk fan will also give your room a tropical feel if you don’t have the budget for ceiling fans.

Accesories.

Have some fun with your tropical bedroom and accessorize it in a way that makes it personal to you. A fun gecko mobile will look super in a child’s bedroom. Or, how about hanging large print green and white wallpaper? Add some green and white furniture that makes you want to use the room for more than just sleeping.
