The Wire Stump by Peter Jakubik – a piece that exerts your imagination

Usually it’s not the obvious designs that are the most interesting and unique but those that exert your imagination, that out your mind to work. It’s one of the reasons why we enjoy abstract designs and shapes so much. Slovakia-based designer Peter Jakibik exploited that concept and created the Wire Stump.The Wire Stump is a collection of outdoor furniture. Its name basically says it all. It’s a series of tables and stools that are crafted from bent rebar and that take the shape of a tree stump.

The similarity is not immediately apparent and for this reason we need to access our imagination and to see beyond the obvious. The pieces from this collection are made out of bent rebar which represents the steel bars that are found in reinforced concrete and oil-coated pinewood. It’s an unusual material to use for furniture design but this only makes the collection that much more interesting.

The pieces are very simple in terms of design. They’re one of those things that, once you see, you immediately feel connected to. They seem so familiar and common and yet nobody else though of this design until now. The bases of the stools and tables are a sort of cage-like structures. They support the octagonal wood tops. The base comes in several pastel colors and the tops have natural shades. The stools are stackable, this making them easy to store.
