The Quality Inn, remodeled by Julie Khuu

In Pasadena there are many beautiful attractions but it all revolves around the downtown area. This area reflects the image of the whole city. It’s a mix of businesses, museums, galleries, entertainment and music events and has become a landmark for this eclectic mix. Interior designer Julie Khuu also feels a close connection to this area because it was her first client that gave her most complex project.

The request was to completely remodel the client’s franchise hotel chain. The plan was to turn them into boutique hotels and for that the hotels needed a whole new look and a new image. The designer chose a whole new direction from the original image. She adopted a bold and yet traditional look and the result was the inn-like atmosphere we see now. The hotels were turned into inviting destinations where the guests can relax and admire the historic details of this old town.

The direction is modern but based on traditional and rustic elements with a glam touch. A beautiful example for this approach is the lobby of the Quality Inn that has been recently renovated. It’s a reflection of the city’s history. The décor features antiques and locally-crafted accessories. The furniture however was updated with modern textiles to create a mix of old and new and an environment fit for the everyday traveler.
