The Pros And Cons Of Living In An Apartment

Some people prefer living in an apartment while others would much rather have a house. The truth is both options have their pros and cons and it’s a matter of personal preferences and lifestyle. Today we’re going to explore the advantages and disadvantages that come with living in an apartment.

Pros.

Amenities.

Apartment buildings usually offer a series of amenities such as a gym, playground for the kids, etc. which private residences rarely include. Also, some buildings have 24 hour security which is a welcomed feature. Other benefits that come with apartments can include closeby restaurants, clubs, bars, etc.

Maintenance.

When you’re living in an apartment you only have to worry about your personal space and nothing more. You don’t have to shovel the snow during winter, to trim the hedges in the spring or to clean the communal space. The maintenance department takes care of everything. And there’s usually someone that will also take care of any necessary repairs.

Cons.

Limited space.

When living in an apartment, the possibility of adding an annex or extension doesn’t exist. The space you have now is all the space you’ll ever get and you have to work with what you have. This means you often have to be creative when decorating a tiny bathroom or a small kitchen. There are a few changes you can make such as making the balcony a part of the living space by removing the wall between them but that’s about it.

Restrictions.

There are certain restrictions that you have to take into consideration if you choose to live in an apartment. For example, you may be restricted from painting the exterior walls or replacing the air conditioning unit or some of the fixtures in order to maintain a cohesive design throughout the building. Also, if you’re renting, personalization can be an issue.

Limited privacy.

There’s not a lot of privacy in an apartment. Since you share the walls with your neighbors, you have to be careful and not disturb them. Also, there could always be someone watching you from the building across the street so you need curtains or blinds.
