The Independente Hostel & Suites from Lisbon

Originally a 100-year old residence, this building was transformed into a hostel. It’s located in Lisbon, Portugal and it’s a nice alternative to other destinations, more suitable for adventurous travelers. The Independente Hostel & Suites has been entirely renovated in July 2011. Originally, it was built to serve as the Swiss ambassador’s official residence but it was then turned into an inviting hostel.

It offers 13 dorm rooms with a total of 108 beds and it takes you back in time when you used to travel with your college friends or high-school colleagues. For those who want more privacy, there are also four private suites. Each suite has a balcony overlooking the Tagus River and views that can be admired while enjoying the morning coffee or breakfast. All the rooms of the hostel, regardless of their size, have high ceilings and inviting, vintage-inspired interiors.

There are also a series of communal areas such as the lounge or dining space. The rooms have art décor floors and wooden bunk beds. Some of the original architectural details have been preserved, such as the moldings on the walls and ceilings. The furniture features distressed finishes to go with the overall vintage décor. Also, the building is naturally weathered by time so this style suits it well. Independente Hostel & Suites is a place where people are stimulated to spend time together and to socialize.{pictures by Shanna Jones Photography}.
