The iconic Taj Mahal table by Studio Job

Taj Mahal is a very famous monument as well as one of the seven wonders of the world. It was created by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. This white marble mausoleum is located in Agra, India and it’s considered the jewel of Muslim art. The monument has been a great source of inspiration for architectural work and, more recently, for a very interesting piece of furniture.

The taj mahal table1

This is the Taj Mahal table, a piece inspired by the famous monument. It was designed by Belgian design firm Studio Job and it features a very interesting adaptation of the original. The table has been presented at the Art Basel Miami 2012event and it has impressed and inspired everyone who saw it. This unusual piece of furniture has been inspired by the Taj Mahal monument and it even borrowed its name. However, the designer’s reinterpretation of this wonder of the world is highly original. Not only that the white mausoleum is black in this version, but it’s also upside down

This is an example of innovation that doesn’t reject tradition but rather embraces it. The table is made of bronze and it features the Taj Mahal sitting upside down with its flat foundation as a top. The surface of the monument is black and the domes and golden. The combination of colors is classic and very elegant and glamorous. There have been some changes that needed to be made to the replica of the monument in order to be placed upside down but they are minor. The iconic Taj Mahal table is a limited edition and there are only eight of them. They each cost €36,000 ($45,455) and they are unique and exclusive centerpieces.{found on Gizmodo}.
