The Freshwater House Project by Chenchow Little

This is the Freshwater House, an impressive residence in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was completed in 2008 and it was designed by Australian studio Chenchow Little. It’s a 3,000 square foot house with a very beautiful contemporary look. In fact, it has a sort of protective shell that really makes it stand out.

The façade is a sort of mediator between the owner’s request for privacy and shading and the aesthetic approach. The residence is structured into three distinct volumes. It includes a podium base, a garden/living area and the bedroom volume. The basement level is enclosed and clad with vertical weathered timber battens that wraps around the entire level and then extends to the ground floor.

The living space sits between the upper and lower levels. It was designed as a large horizontal space visually connected to the areas below and above the site. The top level hat houses the bedrooms seems to be floating above the living level. The location of the house is very convenient. It sits close to the beach and it offers splendid views of the beach and the ocean. In order to create s strong visual connection with the surrounding area, the property is surrounded with similar wooden structures. It’s an eye-catching residence and a strong architectural statement in the area.{found on homedsgn}
