The Flower Of Evil

Some strange things were presented at the Milan Design Week this year; among them Carlos Mate’s Flower of Evil. This quite interesting thing was designed to show that the dark side of people can be beautiful. This idea came into his mind after reading a poem called “A season in Hell , written by Rimbaud.

Obviously that poem contains some passages that inspired Carlos to look for the evil inside us and transform it into art.  If you wonder how this appeared as it is let me give you a quote from that poem and then draw the conclusions together: “ I have called for plagues, to suffocate in sand and blood. Unhappiness has been my god.”

This collection wants to be, according to Carlos’s vision pages from the diary of a damned soul. I am not here to judge and only to express my opinion and respect another’s, but I have to admit that this creation is indeed special.  We all have a dark side and in this designer’s vision this is how it looks like.   I don’t know exactly the materials used for this collection but I can assume that is plaster.

I can also assume that everything is handmade and hand modeled without using power tools. Everything has to be as personal as possible and very close to our raw interior. For those who didn’t get it, this collection in human terms represents a makeup stand with lights, a mirror and a little jewelry box.{found on weheart}.
