The Dala collection by Stephen Burks

Dala is a series of seating units created by designer Stephen Burks. It was presented at Salone del Mobile 2012 in Milan and it consists of colorful lounge chairs, ottomans and stools. All the pieces share similar shapes and designs. The inspiration for this collection came from the improvised seating arrangements often seen around us.

This ingenious collection of woven furniture beautifully combines and balances texture, color and structure. All the pieces from this colorful series start with powder-coated frame of extruded aluminum mesh. This is the base for the design. The frame is then wrapped in ecological fiber by skilled master weavers. This new type of fiber was created from recycled food-and-drink packaging mixed with recyclable polyethylene and was developed by Dedon.

The stool is larger than the rest of the seating units and it also doubles as a side table. The Dala units are lightweight, colorful and cheerful and they can be easily moved around the house. They feature comfortable cushions supported by high-tech fabric. They are designed to be placed directly on the ground and they are very versatile. The ottomans and stools come in three colors: sea, fire and grass and they feature stripes of various thicknesses that are combined to form a beautiful pattern. The fiber used to cover the frames has a lustrous texture, very soft and delicate and it transfers these characteristics to the units they cover.
