The Cindy Lamp by Giorgio Bonaguro
Cindy is a very interesting and also an extremely simple lamp. It was designed by Giorgio Bonaguro who is already known for drastically simplifying everything, particularly everyday objects. The main idea is that these items don’t need to be flashy or dramatic. They are everyday objects that need to be functional. This is their main goal so everything else can be omitted.
It might sound extreme. In fact, the designed doesn’t create ugly objects. He simply takes an item, such as this lamp, and simplifies its design to the point where it goes to the extreme. However, the result is very beautiful and it introduces a new concept. The Cindy Lamp is a perfect example for that. As you can see, the lamp has an extremely simple design. It has been freed of unnecessary details, accessories and even color. The Cindy Lamp features a round base and a top resembling a lampshade. It’s only made of two parts: the body and the hat.
As the designer declares, the main goal was to take the iconic shape of a typical lamp and to recreate it using only one material. Moreover, the lamp was created without using screws or joints. It’s a lamp made entirely of glass. It has a design that can be situated somewhere between classic and modern. It has a classical shape but the approach is modern. Since the lamp is entirely made of glass, its body and hat are transparent. However, the light it diffuses is not as strong as you might expect it. It was a successful attempt to recreate the everyday lamp.
