The Charlie Pollock Executive Chair, an icon of Mid-Century Modern design

The Pollock executive chair was originally designed in 1963. It quickly became an icon of the Knoll collection and one of the most popular office chairs of its time. It is, indeed, a symbol of the Mid-Century Modern chair design and it is still a remarkable piece that hasn’t been forgotten. The Pollock executive chair, even after all this time, still looks modern today. It’s an attribute of truly wonderful designs that are beautiful even when they’re old.

The chair is simple, elegant and sophisticated. It’s a remarkably stylish piece, a surprising creation coming from an industrial designer. But, as Charles Pollock himself says, “every other piece of industrial design is a pot or a dish or something insignificant”. A chair is something unique, like a sculpture of a person. The designer is also known for his ergonomic chair designs. It’s yet one more detail that makes this chair unique and allows it to still be appreciated despite its age.

This particular version of the Pollok executive chair has a dark chocolate brown finish. It swivels 360 degrees and still features its original casters. It’s as beautiful as ever. Of course, given its age, minor wearing marks are visible. For example, there’s some edge wear upon the right arm rest and minor scuffing to the back of the chair. These make the chair look authentic. But new versions of the chair are also available, the price being $2,000.00.
