The 8 objects collection by Seung-Yong Song

There are a lot of pieces of furniture that pretend to have modular and versatile designs. However, all those will seem like a joke after you see this project. Korean designer Seung-Yong Song has created a collection called 8 objects. The idea behind the project is very simple. 8 chairs are put together to forma bed. It’s so simple and yet so mind-blowing. The idea is actually very childish. I still remember when I used to take chairs and put 4 of them together to make a bed and cover them to make a fort.

The collection is very impressive because each of the 8 chairs can be used as a stand-alone piece but it’s also part of a bigger puzzle. Even as a simple chair, they are more than just a regular seat. One of the chairs doubles as a clothing rack, another one can be turned into a small desk, another one can become a bookshelf and so on and so forth. This is indeed a modular collection.

With the 8 objects collection you basically don’t need anything else in your home. A table might be useful however. You have chairs, enough for you can your guests. You also have a cozy bed. Not to mention all the other functions. A chair that serves as a bookshelf is impressive. The desk is also a very practical idea. This collection would be a great addition to a small apartment, where space is always a problem and where convertible pieces are the best choice.
