Colorful on the inside, tattooed on the outside – modern extension in Victoria

Tattoos are paintings on our skin and although they were inspired by artistic creations painted on walls and on canvases, they’re now a very distinct category with a unique style which, interestingly enough, can also define other surfaces. For example, this modern extension has an exterior which looks like it’s been tattooed, hence the name of the project (Tattoo House).

The extension was built for a three-bedroom house. It has a sleek and modern design, both inside and out. Located in Victoria, Australia, this project by Maynard Architects is interesting for a variety of reasons, the unique exterior being one of them. The tattooed portion of the facade is a series of glass walls which stand out and also let you take a peek at the interior.

The glass portions allow light to get inside the interior spaces and the tree designs create interesting visual effects. The interior is decorated with modern features and simple but bold and warm colors. The red and orange accents are chic and modern and the way they are complemented by the white elements is gorgeous.
