Small but impressive house in California

This small but impressive house is located in Geyserville, California, USA and it was completed in 2010. It was a project developed by Wendy Evans Joseph Architecture in collaboration with Richardson Architects, Struber-Stroeh Engineering Group, Inc. and Tysinger & Associates Structural Engineers. In sits on a 850 sqf plot.

At the beginning, the site of the original house had no real infrastructure and met none of the new code requirements for water conservation and fire safety, plus it didn’t even provide adequate power for farm use. As a result, the client requested a new structure that would meet all those criteria and would also take advantage of the hillside views.

The new house is an energy-efficient compact structure with expansive views over the local agricultural lands. It sits near an olive orchard in an existing open area so that no trees would have to be removed. The house is a three-level building. On the first level there’s a full hallway, a bathroom and a bedroom with bath and balcony. At the mezzanine level is the kitchen and dining area connected to a deck. The lower level contains the living room and a deck. The interior is mostly decorated with custom built-in furniture. Since the house is so small, every space had to be used in a highly efficient manner.{pics by Elliot Kaufman Photography}
