Small apartment with a surprisingly spacious interior

This apartment measures a surface of only 45 square meters which would be considered small by most standards. However, interior designer Mauricio Karam found a way to make it seem airy and spacious. Not only that, but he also designed a very stylish décor for this apartment. It’s a wonderful example of how to optimize the space you have available in order to make functional and efficient.

The apartment is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It’s a small flat that originally had a very different interior. The rooms were smaller and the whole place seemed cramped. But, after getting of some of the walls that were just getting in the way, the whole place opened up. By removing the walls, a continuous and spacious living area was created. It’s a modern layout and a much more space-efficient design. The social areas were completely redesigned and transformed into open spaces. However, the private areas such as the bathroom, the laundry room and the bedroom were kept private and intimate.

To also enhance the impression of a larger space, the interior décor had to be continuous. The laminated wooden floors help with that by creating a cohesive image. After it has been remodeled and renovated, the apartment was organized into a modern lounge area that contains a spacious kitchen and a dining table for eight, an open plan living room and a private zone. It’s a functional organization and it goes nicely with the stylish and modern décor.
