Single family residence by Sparano + Mooney Architecture
Designed and built in 2009, this beautiful residence was a project developed by Sparano + Mooney Architecture. It’s located in Emigration Canyon just above Salt Lake City, Utah and it’s a very beautiful single-family residence, measuring 2,700SqFt. It was designed for a couple with young children who wanted a home with expansive canyon views and a series of indoor-outdoor entertainment spaces for the whole family.
With the help of the architects they’ve managed to build their dream home. They used mainly low-maintenance materials. The house has steel cladding with board-formed wood textured concrete and glass features. In order to make it even more sustainable, they also use dual-flush toilets and a rainwater capture system for irrigation of the garden.
Moreover, there are also solatube skylights that provide plenty of natural light and energy-efficient in-floor radiant heating system. In fact, this house earned the first LEED-H (Leadership in Energy and Environmental) Silver certification in the state with sustainable features throughout.
On the lower level there’s a multi-use space that can be used as a guest room, home office, playroom or art studio, according to the user’s immediate needs. The surrounding landscape is amazing. The architects managed to save most of the beautiful oaks surrounding the house.
The garden has drought-tolerant plants, a very good choice considering the location. Sparano + Mooney Architecture are known for their ability to create warm and inviting environments that respond to contemporary conditions, exactly what they’ve done in this case.{found on archdaily and pics by Dustin Aksland}
