Narrow House in Horinouchi by Mizuishi Architect Atelier

I’m sure you’re probably wondering if you’re seeing right. This house has a very unusual shape. It’s a narrow building that seems to be a decoupage from a larger building. It’s actually an independent structure and this is the design that the owners have chosen for their home. The house was a project designed by Japanese studio Mizuishi Architect Atelier and it’s located in Horinouchi.

The residence is a two-storey home and t was built for a family of three. It covers 595 square feet of property and it sits on a triangular lot situated between a river and a road in Suginami, one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo, Japan. Because of the unusual shape of the lot, the house had to modify the typical design and adapt it to the conditions available. This meant that the house had to be very narrow. In order to compensate with that, a second floor was added to make room for extra space.

It’s an unusual home with a contemporary design. It’s an example that shows us that you can adapt to almost any conditions as long as you come up with a plan. In this case the plan was to compensate the lack of floor space with a tall design. This cute little house features large windows and functionally divided space. The rooms are surprisingly spacious and the interior design is simple as not to make it seem smaller than it already is.{found on homedsgn}
