Musical carpet by Florian Kräutli

It might look like a common carpet but it’s not. This unusual creation has a very distinctive characteristic. It’s a carpet that is also a radio. It sounds strange but it’s true. The idea belongs to Swiss designer Florian Kräutli. The carpet is made of looms with conductive thread. The user, actually the user’s body, becomes a human antenna.

I find this carpet very ingenious and actually quite useful. A lot of people like to have a nice ambiance in their home. They usually use the computer for that. But if you had a carpet like this one you wouldn’t need to do that anymore. All you have to do is to walk on the carpet in order to change channels. You can also simply sit on it.

The effect is the same. I would definitely like to have it in my home. I wish there were more colors available, but this one works too. Even though you’re supposed to walk on it, you should still try to be gentle because the mechanism is not indestructible. Also, in order to be able to use it properly, you’ll have to pay attention to the speakers. So you’ll have to find a safe space for the gadgets too.

Personally I never would have thought of this, but now that it’s here it seems like a very good idea. You can find more information on on Florian Kräutli site.
