Multifunctional Mound of Rounds seating
This project is called Mound of Rounds and is the latest creation of the Vancouver-based firm Cumulus Project. The surprising creation was inspired by the simples thing in the world, a thing we all did and still do when carrying out our daily duties, and I’m referring of course at stacking items . The colorful note makes me think of childhood when all sorts of bright colored toys were placed carefully one upon another in a fragile tower that would fall down every time we touched it.
This piece has more than meets the eye and it can be very easily transformed from a sculptural object placed in the corner to extra sitting in any room, great not as a decorative piece but also to sit on them when friends come over. This multifunctional Mound of Rounds is 34” high and 30” in diameter. The movement is possible thanks to a system of rolls, very similar to those found on shopping carts. This new creation aims towards a more recusant segment of people who can fully appreciate these sorts of objects.
I know I can’t fully understand the philosophy behind such an item. Modernism has mysterious ways and people interpret it taking into consideration many factors. These guys have their roots in the Asian culture, where everything is based on simplicity and taking only what they need and nothing more from the nature. This exact concept is transposed here, by having no distraction and focusing only on your partner, friends and so on.
