Modern and Spacious Residence In Sydney

This is the Mosman House. It’s a residence located in Sydney Australia and it was a project by Popov Bass Architects. It sits on a site that offers expansive views over the Middle Harbour to the North and Bradley Bushland Reserve to the West. The architects were requested to come up with a design for a single family residence that would allow the inhabitants to take advantage of the views and the site.

The architects came up with a minimalist but imposing design. The house manages to naturally integrate into the surrounding landscape without sticking out too much but also not passing on without being observed. It has a very simple and clear design. It’s a simple composition made of four concrete walls that support the steel framed roof vault. The concrete walls support the building while also providing privacy and protecting the house from the elements.

Above the roof there’s a terracotta structure that houses the library. It provides expansive views over the surroundings and also above the roof. The rest of the spaces are contained within the main structure and they have a more formal look and shape. The interior is bright and cozy. The dining room is an exception and includes a series of terracotta columns. The house features 5 bedrooms and has 3 levels{found on archdaily and pics by Kraig Carlstrom, Kurt Arnold, Alex Popov}
