Minimalist and serene blogger apartment in Amsterdam

This is a 85 square meter small ground floor apartment located in Amsterdam. The apartment belongs to Desiree who is a passionate decorator. She managed to turn this cold apartment into a very relaxing place. The apartment is rather small but it also has a beautiful little garden next to the living room. It’s located in a building that’s 23 years old and it sits in a beautiful area surrounded by water and history.Desiree really loves her home. She used to live with her children but they have grown and left home. She now enjoys the company of her cat called Mister Cheese. She find inspiration and new ideas for her home just by simply visiting the city with her bike. She often find herself being allured by a piece of furniture or by an old piece of wood that she takes home and incorporates into the design.

Another source of inspiration are the blogs, magazines and books. She has quite a lot of magazines and books and this is a factor that determined the design of the studio. She was thinking of how much she loves displaying them when an idea popped into her head. She took an old table from the local post office and she displayed her magazines on that.

When she’s not decorating or searching for ideas for her home. Desiree changes lives. She works as a social worker. This, combined with her passion for decorating creates a nice balance. Let’s take a closer look at her apartment.

The whole apartment is minimalist and lacking color. However, this only makes it more serene and relaxing. In the living room Desiree has installed a lot of different things. She found a common theme among different objects and decided to create a collection. Even though Desiree is very passionate about this, she decided not to take decorating very seriously.

For her colors are just paint and they can always be replaced if they’re not what you’re looking for. The atmosphere in her home is very calm. It’s a great retreat, a place where you can go after a long and stressful day at work, where you can relax and feel safe.
