Knight Light by David Moreland

Knight Light by Zealand designer David Moreland. The ‘Knight Light’ is a bedside / table lamp constructed out of spun, laser cut aluminium. An exhibition set in a small space in the church where Judy Millar is exhibiting her work at the Biennale this year and will be open to the public in Venice, Italy from 3 June – 22 November 2009.

My guess is this product will be a success because it is very simple in design, yet very functional and suggestive at the same time. You only need to look once to understand the origin of its name: the Knight light. Why would a lamp be called a Knight? Well, it’s pretty easy: the lamp shade looks just like the visor of a knight’s helmet. It is made of metal and has a rectangular cut in it allowing the lamp light to get out and cast the light around it and, in parallel, allowing the knight in the shiny armour to be able to look around him looking for the demoiselle in distress.
