Keeping secrets is easier with the “Wooden Heap”

The “Wooden Heap” is now the Swiss designer Boris Dennler has named his creation. The name is more than representative for this piece of furniture. When you first look at it, all you see is a pile of wood pieces. But this is actually a nicely camouflaged cabinet. As the designer itself declares, this project is an invitation for the public to see beyond the appearances. Related to this idea I think the cabinet could look even better without the legs, or with a different design for them. They just don’t seem to integrate very well in the final design.

People like pieces that hide their real function. The element of surprise is irresistible and has fascinated people generation after generation. The most frequent example is that of the secret passages or fake walls that exist in certain homes. They give you the satisfaction of knowing you possess something that nobody else knows about. It’s your secret, something that only belongs to you and you like it this way.
