New Build Jelenovac Residence by DVA Arhitekta

The Jelenovac Residence is a private home with a contemporary design that’s located in Zagreb, Croatia. It covers an area of 400 square meters and it was designed by DVA Arhitekta. The construction was completed in 2011. The site on which the house was built is situated on the junction of two streets and made it difficult for the architects to design the house in a way that would give its owners privacy while also taking advantage of the location.

The Jelenovac Residence is surrounded by family residences and it faces the Zagreb city park Jelenovac. The house benefits from a nice view and a convenient location. Given the fact that the house is flanked by two streets, the architects had to come up with an idea that would allow the users to have some privacy, at least in some of the rooms. The idea was to create a small garden that acts as a sort of tampon zone between the traffic from the streets and the big garden.

The interior of the house is divided into two volumes. There’s also a median area that serves as a connector between these two levels. It contains a spiral staircase with a sculptural form that has become the focal point of the house. One of the volumes, the larger one, contains the living spaces such as the dining room, the living room and the kitchen. The smaller volume contains the more private spaces. The interior is functionally structured and the décor is minimalist and modern. It’s the same thin for the exterior. The house has a smooth white façade and contrasting black openings that create a simple but striking image.{found on archdaily}.
