Japanese-inspired Tea House by David Jameson

This bronze and glass structure is located in the backyard of a suburban home from Bethesda, United States. It’s definitely not something you would expect to see in the backyard. This structure is a tea house and it was designed by David Jameson Architect.

The tea house has a Japanese-inspired design. In fact, it’s reminiscent of a Japanese lantern. Visually it looks like a box inside a box. In reality it’s a glass structure with a bronze frame placed inside another frame, this time bigger and without glass walls. It’s an odd design but it all makes sense once you realize how relaxing this space can be. The house is a meditation space and also a stage for the family-s musical recitals. It’s a flexible and adaptable space but regardless the purpose you use it for it will always feel calm and relaxing.

The bronze and glass structure is framed by bamboo strands and it creates a sort of protective space and prepares you before entering the tea house. It’s also a transitional space between indoors and outdoors, even though the connection is already very strong because of the transparent glass walls. The Japanese influence doesn’t stop at the comparing with the lantern. The tea house also features an origami stair and that Zen influence that is immediately apparent upon entering this space.
