Ingenious makeover for a country house in Sonoma

This lovely house is located in downtown Sonoma. It belongs to Josh Heiser and Steve Burns who, after living several years in the rainy Seattle, decided to make a change and move here. Sonoma is famous for its friendly climate and beautiful landscape so it seemed like a great choice. The area also has great restaurants and wineries.

Before moving here, the couple found a cookshack that had a 1880s foundation and four layers of old and ugly wallpaper. It was sitting on a half-acre site in an area close to the main plaza. It was a good opportunity for the couple to start their new life there. They decided to purchase the place. However, they weren’t able to move there right away. The house obviously needed a drastic makeover.

It’s a 1,100 square-foot home sitting on a corner lot. It’s very inviting and it got a complete and detailed renovation. It now has crisp white walls and sisal carpeting together with casual and very comfortable furniture that gives it a lodge-like feel.

The house also has a patio which is a great addition considering the friendly weather. It extends the usable space and it can be used all year around. The couple had to make some changed in order to obtain this beautiful design. They remodeled the house, raised the kitchen ceiling and added built-in cabinets that are great for storing appliances, supplies, tools and everything else. The furniture is casual and discrete and there are no remarkable statement pieces.
