How to choose a bar stool height

Before selecting bar stools for home, one should consider a number of things. The most important of them all is the new bar stool height. A bar stool size is measured in the seat height or the height from the floor to the seat base top. There are only a few stool sizes or seat heights available and finding a seat height for any situation is not a difficult task. These sizes are anywhere between 18 inches to 36 inches.

The 18 inch stool height is the smallest one available as sizes shorter than this would be too small for any practical purposes for adults. Such a stool size is commonly used in areas where the counter, desk or table is around 30 inches high. This stool size is mostly used in bathroom vanities and make up tables. They are also seen hanging in theatre dressing rooms and casino slots.

The 24 and 26 inch bar stool heights are reasonably new and are designed to be used for counter heights of 36-39 inches. Such a seat height has been designed specifically for kitchen counters as usually there is no available space for regular tables and chairs. These can also be used at kitchen islands if the island is no taller than the regular sized kitchen table.

A 30 inch stool size is the most versatile when it comes to using it and is therefore the most practical seat height for home use. Such a stool size is designed specifically for bars and counters which are 40-45 inches in length. Such a seat height works great as pub stools in the home bar, billiard or games room. They look great and provide a good atmosphere to the room and at the same time provide a spot to sit and watch or wait for the next turn. A 30 inch stool size also works well for garage work and repairs at a workshop.

Other sizes like a 34 inch stool is available but is a custom made size. Usually there is no specific use of such a stool unless someone has a bar which is 46 inches in height. Other practical uses of such a stool are quite limited. 35 and 36 inch stools are mostly used as spectator stools in recreational areas. A new bar stool height should always be chosen after knowing the exact purpose as this is the most important aspect when it comes to its practical use.
