How to remove the permanent maker stains from the furniture

We all know that kids enjoy coloring the walls or writing on the furniture, especially when they are specifically told that they are not allowed to. We also know that it’s very difficult to clean up the mess and that sometimes we have to even repaint everything. But there are also solutions for this problem. If the kids used permanent market for their creative project then you might have a chance.

To get the stains out you can try simply covering them with toothpaste. Then scrub off with a damp cloth. It’s guaranteed to work on wood paneling, painted walls and porcelain. If this doesn’t work there are also other things you can try. For example, you can rub some toothpaste in and, after leaving it for a few minutes to work, take a soapy, wet dishcloth and rub out the stain in the direction of the grain of the wood. Make sure the toothpaste you’re using is not gel and doesn’t contain abrasives.

Another trick that seems to work says that you should first color over the mark with a dry erase marker and then wipe it off. It will supposedly pull up the ink too. Another idea would be to try erasing it with a pencil eraser, to apply sunscreen over, hair spray, insect repellent or to mix ¾ cup household ammonia with a quart water and to soak the clothing in the solution. These are suggestions coming from people that tried them and that were happy with the results. However, they might not work for every case so don’t expect these solutions to be 100% effective. Some of them might even make the situation worse, depending on the item you’re trying to clean, the type of material, the finish and a number of other factors.
