Hammock Casey Key Guest House by TOTeMS Architecture

The appearance of a hammock has always made me think of a nice nap or a relaxing summer afternoon that I can spend outdoor, in my garden or at a picnic. A hammock is a comfortable way of sitting which can offer you a nice place for reading something, taking a sweet nap or chatting with somebody.

What do you say about a house which takes the shape of a hammock? It is the case of this Casey Key Guest House designed by TOTeMS Architecture. The firm tried to respect the owner’s wishes. He wanted a house that could offer him a perfect communion with nature, a building which would respect the “land and the wood”. It is a modern guest residence which is set within an oak hammock along Sarasota Bay, located on a barrier island in Florida.

Casey Key Guest House is a construction based on an arched structure where wood seems to dominate all the spaces. Here you may relax and enjoying the comfort of every space of this building: a bedroom, a bathroom, a living area with a kitchenette and a wonderful loft which will offer great views of the surrounding landscape. The fact that it is situated in a flooding area made it necessary to be supported on a specialized steel piling foundation system which will protect it from all these problems.
