A Futuristic Design Proposed By HOK For The Dubai World Expo 2020
In case you haven’t found out yet, we’ll let you know that Dubai was chosen to become the first middle eastern city to host the World Expo in 2020. Related to this new, HOK has released images of their proposal for the site. Their idea is a futuristic and innovative design which would combine elements related to the heritage and history of the region with contemporary elements.
The design proposed by HOK in collaboration with Populous and Arup is of a structure that comprises three pavilions. Each one of them symbolizes one of the following concepts: opportunity, sustainability and mobility. The three pavilions are connected through a central plaza. It will be a 1,082 acre development featuring small clusters of exhibition spaces in the center and larger areas around the perimeter.
As you probably suspected, the project is meant to be sustainable. This is why there will be photovoltaic panels positioned on the building facades and they will provide at least 50% of the required energy for the event.
Also, a photovoltaic fabric structure will act as a solar powered shading device and will cover the circulation routes illuminated by digital projections. When everything will be concluded, the three main pavilions will be used to create “The museum of the future” so that the project will always be remembered.{found on designboom}.
