Five homemade cleaning recipes with simple ingredients

These days you can find a special product for almost anything. But sometimes there are alternatives. If you have the patience and disposition, you can make your own cleaning recipes by using simple and common ingredients. Here are five examples.

1. Clean your microwave with lemon juice.

You may not know this, but lemon juice is great for cleaning the interior of the microwave. The steam also helps with that. The acidity of the lemon juice will make the interior of your microwave shine. It’s great for cleaning greasy surfaces and it also deodorizes.

Salt is a great abrasive. It can be used to clean pots and pans and it’s great for getting rid of the burn marks. Simply fill the pot with cold water and add 2-3 tablespoons of salt. Let it sit overnight and then boil the salty water.

3. Remove rust with a potato.

It might sound silly but potatoes are great for removing rust. You can make a great recipe using a potato and some baking soda or salt. Use it to remove the rust from your kitchen utensils. Take a raw, peeled potato and dip in baking soda or salt. Rub it over the rust spots and they will be like new in no time. Rinse and dry and your problems are gone.

4. Kill the weeds with bleach and boiling water.

Weeds can be really annoying when they grow near our plants or in the sidewalk cracks. A simple recipe you can make and that will kill them is a solution made with bleach and water. Use 95% boiling water and 5% chlorine bleach and douse the weeds with the solution you have made. You should avoid using plastic containers as they might melt. If the weeds are stubborn, repeat the process after a day or two.

5. Homemade window cleaner.

Finding window cleaners is not a problem. But here’s a recipe that is certain to work. Use 2 parts isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), 1 part ammonia, 7 parts water and 2-3 drops of dishwashing liquid. Mix all the ingredients together and use the solution to clean the windows. Be careful not to use it on aluminum window frames as the ammonia can damage them.
