Eco-Friendly, Reusable House by Broadhurst Architects

Broadhurst Architects have designed an “enviresponsible shelter” on the grounds of the Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland. The Crib, as it is known, is a largely prefabricated outbuilding inspired by the corn crib, a traditional agricultural structure used to store food. This house is a response to the current interest in small buildings, in simplicity and environmental responsability. The architects designed this unique building with sustainable and recyclable materials that can be fabricated off site and then transported and quickly assembled where desired.

The Crib is being used as a visual arts studio, a lab and a gallery and is open to public during crtain events and various other times. The interior of this beautiful house is very modern, bright and airy, aspects that are extremely important in a small space. What’s more the design allows for reuse by dismantling and reassembling the Crib elsewhere.
