Dynamic duplex in a historic Madrid building

It’s always interesting to take a look at apartments that are located in historic buildings. They have a certain look that makes them unique. This duplex is situated in central Madrid, in the cultural and literary center of the capital.

The building in which this duplex is located dates back to 1890 and it was originally a brothel called La Petit Venice. This particular duplex apartment has been fully renovated by the architectural firm James Benavides. The current state of the duplex features an eclectic décor.

There’s a certain dynamism in the interior design of this place, partly due to the different types of materials used like wood, acrylic, iron or cane. Also, there are all sorts of textures involved and the colors really add a unique spark to the décor.

In order to harmoniously combine everything, the walls and ceilings have been painted white. This way it’s like a blank canvas that can be then modified according to the owner’s preferences and needs. During the renovation process, some of the original features have been preserved, such as the doors, the windows and the wooden beams.

The wooden floors were impossible to recover and were replaced by an industrial oiled oak parquet. Modern additions are visible as well, mostly in small decorations and fixtures such as the lamps of the small and colorful details.{found on micasa}
