Creating the Winter Wonderland Effect with Pink

Every season we have new colours that pop onto the scene and position themselves as a firm favourite among interior designers and home overs all over the world. For the upcoming winter 2013 season this colour is definitely pink. This post reveals how pink is the perfect shade for anyone trying to emulate the soft and magical winter wonderland vibe.

Pink is a breath of fresh air to say the very least. We are so often used to going for dark shades during the colder months, such as wine, jade, navy, plum, burgundy and dark grey.

Pink is a welcomed addition because it brings a softness which is both calming and uplifting. When emulating this trend you should definitely go for light shades of pink. This creates the magical winter wonderland effect. Soft rose is a stunning option to go for. Aside from this, pearl blush and pink chocolate are dreamy as well.

The obvious way to incorporate soft shades of pink into your home would be to couple this with soft textures. This is how you achieve the maximum cosy effect that everybody wants in their home when the temperatures are low.

Rose rugs, cushions and curtains are easy yet effective ways of bringing the colour into a room whilst also bring comfort. Keep it plush. Just look at the throw in the picture below, it looks inviting and snug doesn’t it? This is how you couple the colour and the texture to achieve ultimate luxuriousness.

Or, why not use the colour to full effect with a slick of paint or some wallpaper? Bold prints are in fashion this season, however this directly contrasts with the soft and soothing impact you are trying to generate in relation to the winter wonderland feel. Thus, you should try and tone it down a bit. This doesn’t mean you can’t use prints though. Just keep it more subtle; avoid contrasting colours and big patterns.

But what truly works to stunning effect is to go for one statement piece of furniture in a vibrant shade of pink. By vibrant we don’t mean go for harsh colours, like fuchsia or magenta. Instead, pops of pastel or shades such as french rose, brink pink, Persian pink and salmon pink work really well. They generate attention yet they don’t stick out like a sore thumb in relation to the rest of the interior in the room.
