Contemporary stone residence in Spain

This house is located in Cabo de Ajo, in Santander, Cantabria, Spain. It was a project by MDBA and its construction was completed in 2008. The location is convenient and it offers very beautiful views. However, the site itself posed some problems for the architects. The sloping terrain and the rocky composition of the soil made the process difficult and challenging. Nevertheless, the final design managed to use everything in its advantage.

The residence offers beautiful views of the cliffs and the surrounding landscape. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls further increase their beauty while also allowing natural light to get inside and to create a bright and airy atmosphere. The exterior design of the house is very simple. Its geometrical shape allows it to have a contemporary look while the stone and other materials used for the construction add a nice texture to the façade. The house is oriented towards the sea.

Besides the glass walls and large windows, the residence also has a beautiful wooden terrace. It’s like an extension of the house that offers even more amazing views. Moreover, the property also includes a herb garden surrounded by rocks. The residence has only one volume. It’s structures in three levels. The top two levels have been designed in a way that would allow them to take maximum advantage of the views and the beautiful landscape.{found on archdaily and pics by Margaret Stepien}.
