Contemporary Australian Residence by Bild Architecture

Think for a moment how a city would look like without restorations and renovations. I tell you: like a dumpster. Towns always need new constructions, rehabilitation and demolition to make room for new projects. The Bild Architecture has an interesting project in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia that includes the restoration of several properties from an old neighborhood. Now I will present one of those houses. On a 235 square meters area, the architects involved in this project (Ben Milbourne, Haslet Grounds and Alison Stout) managed to create an interesting living place using lightweight materials as wood, steel and glass.

Outside the house is surrounded by a small but intimate courtyard covered with gravel. When I first saw these pictures my mind flew to a pentagon-shaped object, because I remarked the interesting roof that allows sunlight inside during winters, and keeps it away in summer time.

The whole construction is composed of two separate wings that can be used by two families. Through those big sliding glass windows facing the street we can see a warm living room decorated in soft tones. A white room with brown accents and wooden floors is the perfect place for a simple family who prefers an open space for spending time together. I really love the kitchen. I’ve always liked surfaces covered in dark tones of paint, so I think it really creates an interesting contrast with the white, modern kitchen furniture.
