Colman Triplex by Workshop for Architecture
This is a 3750 sq.ft owner occupied three unit apartment located in Seattle, Washington which was completed in 2009. This is built on an incredible design considering the economy of space, individual dwelling program, and access to landscape. The organizations of the dwellings are free to rotate or flip according to their individual requirements. For the interior bearing, an internal structural steel frame is used. These apartments are supported by non load bearing walls.
The concepts of the apertures are derived from both the criterions of activity and environment. These apertures or porches can be used to control sunlight or rain all depending on your wish. A broad horizontal array of windows connects the upper dwelling’s main living space to the sky or the other distant views.
In the Master Bedroom, a private interior light well allows daylight to reflect here. Entry porches connect the adjacent park to the open living spaces. There is also a horizontal 1×4 exterior cladding rain-screen which protects this apartment from turbulent rains. In overall, this is a great place to stay and a great place to be.
