Chair inside a chair
When I say the title I imagined a concept that involved a system similar to the matroska concept. A small chair, inside a big chair, inside a bigger chair, inside a very big chair and so on. But I had a pleasant surprise when I saw the beauty of this new concept. I don’t know how original it is or if this one it’s the first out of many to come, all I know is that it’s interesting and features fine mechanics. I like the color alternation and how it appears that the black chair acts as a protective shell for the white one. The symbolism is also correct, white means purity and is interpreted as fragility or a sign of weakness, structural wise.
Leaving the looks aside, a good design involves functionality as well, after all this is a chair and should be treated in consequence. Unfortunately the usability aspect doesn’t match the looks. The black chair is too small and can only act as decoration the white one is also too narrow but that’s not the main problem; the comfort is. There are no cushions or some other soft materials that make seating comfortable. The back rest is flat, which doesn’t match the curvature of any person’s back.
To sum it up, what we have here is a chair designed by Flavio Scalzo, actually two chairs that look good but are useless if you try to sit on them.
