One of the things that make an interior décor functional and beautiful is the fact it’s also flexible and leaves room for changes. This aspect concerns everything but mostly the furniture. It has to be functional and it has to be beautiful but if you truly want it to be perfect it doesn’t hurt for it to also be flexible in some way. We’re now talking specifically about furniture on wheels which is practical for several reasons. We’ve selected relevant and beautiful examples for each of the following categories.

Tables on wheels.

The most common type of table that usually has wheels is the coffee table. This makes it very functional because you can move it around and change its location when guests come over or when you simply want to clear some space for something else. When you have a small home there is obviously not enough space for all the furniture pieces and accessories that you would like to include in the interior design. However, this doesn’t always mean that you have to give up the ideal of having everything you need or want. The alternative in this case would be to find a solution that would allow you to include all the furniture you want without making the rooms seem cramped and tiny.

Multifunctional furniture is a great idea is such cases. The same thing can be said about extendable furniture pieces. One such example would be this table. My grandmother just contacted me for some help. She’s renovating her house to create a small apartment for her and my grandpa (the rest of the large house will be used by another family member’s family). Grandma was wondering how to incorporate a drop-leaf table effectively into her open concept (albeit fairly bite-sized) kitchen/dining/living space. I think the concept of drop-down furniture is fantastic – it works in small spaces and specialized spaces and for a variety of purposes.

I was able to work some things out with my grandma, but it got me thinking about other ways drop-down tables are useful. This article includes some of the examples I found; you might even find one or two that would work in your own home!

Kid-Zone.

Adorably imaginative Flower Shop motif aside, this drop-down play table is probably eye-candy for every mother out there who’s ever stepped on sharp legos or barbie shoes strewn about the floor. This table is perfect for keeping toys in check, helping the child be organized (they have to decide what they’re playing with and keep it confined to the space provided by the drop-down), yet it’s still completely play-able. And the bright green color makes it an imagination oasis. I love this.

When you’re creative you can work with anything. Regardless of the size of your home, it’s difficult to include in the decor every little object that you might or might not need at some point. It’s not practical either as it’s much simpler to just opt for fewer multipurpose pieces of furniture that will serve you just as well. This way you save space and money and you get to have everything you need right there in your small home.

Chairs, up and down and upside down.

Most people think that a chair is only what it appears to be, a place to sit on. But if you’re creative you can easily turn it into something else. For example, here we have four folding chairs that are mounted on the wall. When flat they just sit there. But when unfolded they become more than useful.
