A 1940s Sydney apartment renovated by CO-AP Architects

This chic apartment is located in Sydney, Australia. It dates back to the 1940s and it has been recently renovated by Sydney-based design studio CO-AP Architects. Even though it’s quite old, the apartment preserved few traces of its past. It currently has a modern interior with many stylish details. The owners’ main request was to open up the apartment. They wanted the architects to transform the three-bedroom apartment into a one-bedroom apartment. They wanted them to open up the room and to maximize the views over the harbor.

They also wanted a large open plan with a flexible design. The rest of the space needed to be converted into a guest/AV room for their grandchildren. In order to make the necessary transformations, the team had to demolish many of the existing walls. The only structure that remained untouched was the fireplace core.

A small, neutral apartment of 50 square meters

Like we have demonstrated on many occasions, a small apartment doesn’t necessarily have to feel cluttered and cramped. There are many examples that support this affirmation. This apartment is one of them. This is an apartment that covers a surface of 50 square meters which most people would catalogue as small. However, it looks surprisingly airy and spacious.

There are many reasons for that. Let’s start with the obvious ones. The apartment has white walls and ceilings in each and every room, including the bathroom. This is a well-known trick that is often used in order to create the impression of a larger space. Then there’s also the fact that the windows are large and that the décor takes advantage of their positioning. The windows let in lots of natural light and thus the interior becomes bright and airy.

An Antithetical Loft in New York

The loft in the picture is definitely a contemporary place that breathes good taste and modernity beyond anything. It is located on Broadway,New Yorkand Studio MDA did the work. As it was admitted, the design can be considered “antithetical” to Manhattan’s Noho neighborhood and what stands for open plan. This luxurious property reveals gallery-like views in the living areas and separates the sleeping spaces in order to allow identity and privacy for each of them.

The intention was perfectly accomplished, that of separating as much as possible and the result is more than satisfactory. One of the most attractive parts of this loft is children’ s play area, with the cocoons for reading and relaxing, with the wall that provides a home within the home. No matter where you look, you find at least one thing that draws your attention and impresses.

A 47 square meter apartment with black and white interior

This stylish apartment is situated in a building that was originally constructed in 1935. It’s why it’s surprising to see such a modern apartment inside it. However, to achieve this result, several renovations were necessary. It’s something that was created over the years. The apartment changed in an effort to keep up with the times and it eventually got the modern and chic look it had today.

The apparently modern look that the apartment has now is partially due to the color palette. The interior of the apartment has been decorated in black and white. This is a timeless color mix that will always look beautiful. So even if it was renovated several years ago, because of the colors the apartment still looks modern and new. Also, even though it measures only 47 square meters, it seems surprisingly spacious. It’s yet another result created by the black and white interior.
