This house built in Mediterranean style by studio MPR Design Group, is located in Coogee, beachside suburb of Randwick, 5 miles south-east of the Sydney central business district, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Completed in 2010, this casual family contemporary retreat has a magnificent view over the ocean and the coastline, a place where the time stands still when you’re looking at it. The crystal clear water from the infinity pool is the place where the horizon meets the ground, creating a continuous space.
The entire house is built with a Mediterranean style, with a combination between concrete walls, wooden floors and lots of open spaces with wooden decorations, rocks and plants. Overlooking the beautiful landscape, the building has several balconies with wooden beams and poles, strategically chosen to give it an old look, in harmony with all those exterior foundations made of small pieces of rock.
The interior is also decorated using wood, a natural material which gives a warm breeze to the entire location. In the living room we can see an unusual round table, perfectly matching the cozy furniture and the modern fireplace. The same colors pallet is used in the dining room, where three beautiful, modern lamps, placed above the table, enlighten the whole room. I think the main building idea for this house was to create a space surrounded by nature as much as possible, if not use natural, ecological material instead.
