In Oslo, space is a big issue. Taking this main factor into consideration the Oslo based Rintala Eggertsson Architects came up with the idea of Boxhome. They had also focused on the quality of space, material to be used and sunlight.
In the North, all buildings are built in an advanced way considering the ever contrasting weather. Also, the houses have to be properly heated with external energy more than half of the year. Hence, constructing small homes would bring about a considerable economical as well as ecological benefit.
But in Scandinavia, there are also many rich people who want to construct big houses but there is no sufficient space at present. Boxhome is a 19 square meter dwelling with four rooms that is the kitchen with dining, bathroom, living room and the bedroom. The main motive of the Boxhome is to reduce unnecessary floor area. You can buy this home for only 1/4 of the price of any same size apartment in the same area. Gradually, I think over the course of time, this will definitely be a very effective concept.
