Attic Space Makeovers – How To Raise The Standards

Attics are not usually considered very important spaces or areas that have a lot of potential. They’re often used for storage and become cluttered and forgotten. However, when you really think about it, the attic can be converted into a usable space in which case you can actually add another room to your house.

Because attics are usually small and have slanted roofs, the design possibilities are a bit limited. A great option would be to turn an attic into a seating area. You can put there a couch or a small sofa, a comfortable armchair with a footstool and a coffee able or a pair of side tables. What a great place to relax and read a book.

Another idea is to convert the attic space into an additional bedroom. The bed would occupy most of the floor space but there would still be enough room for a table or a desk and even a chair. The pitched roof would make this room really cozy and you can use bright colors to create an airy look.

A child would really enjoy moving into the new attic bedroom. Although the windows up here are not large and there’s not a lot of natural light, the room can still look lovely if you use comfortable furniture and the right colors.

And why not even turn the attic into your own bedroom? If your house has a flat roof then you’re in luck because the room will feel a lot more spacious this way. Thought it may not be a very large space, there’s enough room for a bed, nightstands and even some accent furniture.

Of course, the attic is not always structured in such a way that you can convert it into an additional room. But you can decide on a function, a style and a color palette depending on the size and shape of your attic.

And if you already have enough bedrooms in the house, you can choose to turn the attic into a library or a home office. This way you add a function to your home and increase the usable space. All you need is a wall unit such as a bookcase, comfortable seating and a desk if necessary.

As we’ve already mentioned, the lack of natural light in the attic can be a problem. But instead of considering the shape of the space an inconvenient you can make the most of it. So if you have a slanted roof, build skylights.

To make the space look more spacious and airy, choose the right colors. Whites are excellent and you can combine them with bright accent colors such as orange, yellow, green or turquoise to create a cheerful and fresh ambiance.
