Atypical Attic Apartment In Spain With A Surprisingly Open Interior
One way to refer to this space would be as an attic. However, this is no typical attic. It’s located on a roof of a building in Alicante, Spain and it’s a sort of hybrid between an apartment and a house. This is a very peculiar project because the space doesn’t look and feel like an apartment and especially not like an attic. It’s too open, bright and spacious to fit the typical description.
This unusual apartment, if we’re to call it this way, measures a total of 61.6 square meters. Its interior was designed in 2016 by La Erreria, a studio with a holistic approach to every project and an inspiring way of reconstructing their strategies to adapt to new scenarios in order to ensure satisfying results for each and every client. This constant reinvention of the designs means that no two projects are the same.
The limited floor space was an impediment but also the thing that empowered the designers to find custom solutions and to come up with new and clever design ideas. For instance, they chose a wall bed instead of a typical one and this allowed them to fulfill their plan of giving the attic a versatile and flexible floor plan. As the bed folds up during the day, the space can become a lounge area or an extension of the living area.
The interior as a whole is very bright and open, with full-height windows, sliding glass doors and a color palette based on white as the main tone combined with light wood accents and touches of yellow, green and blue. There’s a duality that makes this project quite interesting. On one hand the space is small although it doesn’t look or feel tiny. On the other hand, there’s a strong connection to the outdoors even if there’s no uninterrupted view of the surroundings.
Unlike typical attic apartments, this one lacks the slanted walls and ceiling and features instead a very open layout, with straight, large windows and a surprising connection to a terrace that surrounds it. like a yard. The low walls that surround it offer a sense of comfort and security without completely hiding the views.
