Artistic black and white residence in Singapore

This is another contemporary residence, this time located in Singapore. Like most modern designs, this one is unique. In fact, I find it quite refreshing. It resembles a sketch more than a complete residence. The house was designed by Alan Tay and W.H Pung from Formwerkz Architects. It sits on an area of 1,200 square meters and it was completed in 2011.

The residence is composed of three separate volumes with variable sizes. It was an adaptation of the design to the shape of the plot. The land featured a triangular shape and this determined the architects to come up with an original plan that would allow them to take advantage of the entire site. There are three sides in a triangle and three volumes in this residence. On the longer side of the house there’s a beautiful and relatively untouched forest that provides calm views and shade. The pool has also been placed on that side to reflect the foliage.

The three volumes of the residence are wrapped around a central courtyard. They have black granite facades and this creates a strong contrast to the almost entirely white interior. In fact, there’s a continuous game between black and white. The black stairway placed against the crisp white walls resembles a piano. There an atrium inside the main volume that connects all the floors, starting with the basement and finishing with the roof terrace. The residence also includes a beautiful front terrace, a dining hall and a family room.{found on archdaily and pics by Jeremy San}.
